What a rediculous decision it is by Newcastle to sack Chris Hughton?? 11th in the Premier League is a good return after promotion from the Championship last season. How are clubs meant to establish themselves and build teams if managers a consistantly being sacked??? Outrageous. West Brom however, were excellent against the Toon, replicating the performance from Everton and winning with ease. WBA are now back in the top half of the table ahead of the two local derbies coming up. First the trip to Villa Park. Aston Villa are in awful form and the appointment of Houllier was totally uninspiring, if Villa continue going the way they are, they could be joining a certain team in gold and black at the foot of the Premier League. The second derby is the all black country affair against the 'W***es', 4 points from these two games and i'd say WBA are safe with only half the season gone.
The awful weather we have been having lately has severely dented my non-league football activities and my ambitions to once again see over 100 games this season. Let's hope the weather improves soon.

Bill Is An Oboe
On Tuesday i returned to one of my favourite local non-league grounds; the Coppice Colliery Ground, home of Heath Hayes. Heath Hayes were playing Boldmere St Michaels in the quarter-finals of the Walsall Senior Cup. Boldmere were far superior throughout the entire match, eventually winning 3-1. The ground is situated within the grounds of an old colliery, with a 10ft drop down one side of the pitch (so i was not overly willing to fetch any misplaced footballs). On the back of one of the dugouts i noticed some rather interesting graffitti. Apparently a local named Bill is an Oboe!!!!! The Heath Hayes youth, a.k.a Heath Hayes Massive sat atop the 25ft high grass bank behind the goal hurling abuse down at the Boldmere players throughout the game.... i wonder if one of them is named Bill???
I spent Wednesday at Leicester City at a very useful conference where i learnt lots of ideas for using data tools in target marketing, of particular interest was a talk from the Chief Executive at Southend United, whose ideas i might try and 'borrow', tweak slightly and use at WBA.
On Saturday i will be travelling up to Everton with the Baggies fans, hopefully they can return to winning ways. Meanwhile, i hope Charlton can defeat Luton in the FA Cup, a nice money-spinnig 3rd trip to Old Trafford wouldn't go amiss.

One Step forward, Two steps back
Well the last few days have been tough both on and off the pitch. Yesterday's 3-0 thrashing at home against Stoke City was less than welcome. A few weeks ago we were looking up, now we're looking nervously over our shoulders. The injury to Olsson has shown what a key player he is to WBA, the sooner he is back the better. Work itself has also been tough, but hopefully next week things should finally be sorted, one way or another. On Wednesday i will be attending the green4solutions conference at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium, I'm hoping to learn lots of new ideas which i can impliment at West Brom as we strive to improve the marketing and data function at the club.
Charlton meanwhile defeated Yeovil Town 3-2 at The Valley, despite having Christian Dailly sent off. The attendance was in my opinion disappointing at 15000, considering the excellent 'bring 2 friends for £10' offer. Charlton are sitting pretty in 2nd spot at the moment, lets hope this run continues and we can get out of this awful division.
Rushall Olympic won 3-0 away at Spalding United and continue to climb towards the play-off positions in the Evo-Stik Division 1 South.

So near and yet so far.
My local non-league side Rushall Olympic came so close to winning the Evo-Stik ground make over competition after a bizarre influx of voting from Swansea City fans. A prize of £10000 was up for grabs. The eventual winner were Chasetown (backed by Swansea's rivals Cardiff City), a team with £0.5m worth of ground improvements already approved. Its such a shame that the money has gone to a club where £10000 will make such little difference, £10000 to Rushall Olympic would've been massive.
Following last night's replay we now know that Charlton will face Luton Town at home in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup, lets hope for a good result there and an exciting money spinning tie in the 3rd Round. Finally Jay Bothroyd made his debut for England yesterday in the drab game against France, if Bothroyd is the future of English football, winning the 2018 world cup bid might be our only hope of qualifying for the competition.!

New Blog
Welcome to my new fun and exciting blog thingy. Here i will update my life as a football fanatic and the enevitable bizarre escapades. Working for West Bromwich Albion, supporting Charlton Athletic, completing the '92' and being a local non-league statto make my day to day experience of the national game vast. I hope to bring exciting tales from my 24/7 life in the football environment, i hope you enjoy sharing the ride with me.
Yesterday after a busy day at The Hawthorns i had the pleasure of attending my 44th game of the season at a freezing cold Alvechurch, for their Birmingham Senior Cup 1st Round clash against Chasetown. Chasetown won after extra time thanks to a definate penalty. Alvechurch were unlucky. The rather attractive female referee made a nice change, although i'm convinced she and linesman were more than just work collegues. The highlight of the evening however was the burger van getting stuck in a ditch, requiring the help of several officials to push it out.
On saturday Stoke come to The Hawthorns a team WBA haven't beaten in a top flight fixture for 26 years, here's hoping the Baggies luck changes, meanwhile Charlton are at home against Yeovil.
